Message Board

3/20/2020 update

Dear Parishioners,

Attached is the letter and other information that Bishop Thomas John Paprocki issued earlier this week.  Most, if not all, of you are already aware of the information and changes that are provided in this release.  In summary, the Bishop has called for the cancellation of public masses in order to help stem the spread of Coronavirus and he urges us to take this moment as a spiritual fast from the Eucharist.  (Masses have been cancelled through the Easter Vigil and ongoing until further notice.)

As a result, please note the following information:

Church Hours

St. Aloysius church will be open daily from 7:00 am and will be secured at 8:00 pm.

Confessions

Confessions are scheduled as follows:

St. Aloysius church:         Saturdays at 5:00 pm

St. Joseph church:            Wednesdays at 1:00 pm

You may also call to schedule an appointment (217-925-5579).

Mass Intentions

Mass intentions WILL be honored (originally informed you that Mass intentions would be rescheduled for a later date).  Masses listed in the 3/15 bulletin have been honored.

Next week’s Mass intentions are:

Tuesday, March 24:  Martin & Louise Schwermine

Wednesday, March 25:  Frank Henry Alfred

Thursday, March 26:  Earl & Marie Meinhart

Friday, March 27:  Betty Schackmann

Saturday, March 28:  Louis Repking

Sunday, March 29:  Mike Repking & Evelyn Helmink

Collections

The Bishop has encouraged everyone to continue contributing to the church if at all possible.  An offertory basket will be in front of the altar at St. Aloysius church during the weekends.  You can also drop off your weekly envelope at the parish office.

Spiritual Communion

In place of receiving the Blessed Sacrament, we are all encouraged to make a spiritual communion (https://www.ewtn.com/catholicism/devotions/act-of-spiritual-communion-339):

My Jesus,

I believe thay You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.

I love You above all things

and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You.

Amen.

We are also encouraged to pray the rosary and to recite the prayer to the Holy Virgin of Guadalupe (http://www.usccb.org/about/communications/upload/prayer-coronavirus-2020-card.pdff) for the end to the spread of Coronavirus, the healing of those afflicted, and strength for those caring for the sick.

These are definitely trying times and each day we are encountering situations that we have not dealt with before.  But we are never alone – God is always at our side.  Please continue to pray for God’s help and strength to overcome the daily trials and to bring us to better days ahead.

Thank you.

Bishop Thomas John Paprocki Message

Welcome

Our Churches:

St Aloysius and St Joseph

Our Mission Statement:We come together from three different parishes to form a community of faith whose patron is St. Isidore the Farmer.  Our Ancestors have given many of us a German work ethic and a bond with the soil. We form a sacramental people in the Effingham Deanery of the Roman Catholic diocese of Springfield in Illinois. The Sacred Scriptures and the sacraments of the Church sustain us as we strive to know, love and serve the Lord;  forgive those who offend us;  welcome the stranger;  bring the gospel to the marketplace;  and develop hearts that are filled with gratitude. We endeavor to be instruments of the Holy Spirit in building the kingdom of God.
